CHICAGO, Ill., Dec. 13, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Landmarks Illinois We are now accepting nominations to the 2023 Most Endangered Historic Places Award Illinois. The most popular advocacy program in the state, the Most Endangered is an annual list that highlights historic and culturally significant sites that are under threat from deterioration or demolition. You can nominate for the 2023 most endangered list online. Nominations are due by April 30, 2019. January 17, 2023.
Anyone can nominate a site for inclusion, whether they are residents or members of local community groups. Illinois to be on the 2023 Most Endangered Species List. Nominated sites must be in dire need of preservation. They don’t have to be nationally or locally designated landmarks, but they should be appreciated by the local community and/or celebrated for their local history and culture.
The Landmarks Illinois staff will review all nominations for the 2023 Most Endangered List. Landmarks Illinois We welcome nominations for places that share the stories of communities that historically have not received the same recognition from the preservation industry. The decision on whether their nomination was accepted or rejected will be made in the spring. The 2023 list of Most Endangered species will be released in May 2023.

A site’s inclusion on the Most Endangered lists can lead to legislative efforts that help ensure its preservation.

Landmarks Illinois staff are committed to the preservation of a property once it is placed on its Most Endangered List. They also maintain communication with local advocates and provide resources (including small grants) where necessary. This has often resulted in decades-long relationships between Landmarks Illinois and local advocates. Landmarks Illinois staff can also be a link to other preservation professionals like engineers, architects, historians, and others.
