DIMAPUR — A joint coordination meeting of the Kohima District Task Force and the flying squad team on the enforcement of the ban of single-use plastics (SUP) was held at the DC’s conference hall on Friday.
A DIPR report said that the meeting discussed the issue of using drinking water bottles at government offices. Following the notification by the government, the decision was made to enforce the existing ban on drinking bottles under 20 litres both in government offices within the district of Kohima and in government meetings and programmes.
The meeting also decided that the revised penalties of INR 5000 per first offense, INR 10,000 for second offences and INR 20.000 for third offences will be enforced.
KMC was also instructed to intensify its checks in Kohima’s jurisdiction to discourage the use and sale of SUP bags, as well as to encourage the use paper carrybags.
Sub-divisions are also asked to set up awareness programmes to educate the public and to create action plans that discourage the use SUP. The meeting decided that the wholesalers of flex banners, as well as the printing presses printing them, would be subjected to a more intensive inspection.
